Virgin Media customers offered free TV channels and internet to help get through lockdown

Virgin Media only just announced a major price hike, but the firm is now working hard to make amends for the increase to your monthly bills. First up, the firm is giving away a number of extra channels that would usually add to your telly bill. This includes Animal Planet HD, Crime+ Investigation HD, Discovery Science, Eurosport 1 and 2 HD and Sky History. So, if you’re stuck for shows to watch in lockdown – these extra paid-for channels should provide some new entertainment over the coming weeks.

And that’s not all, as everyone who subscribes to the “Documentaries Personal Pick” or “Mix bundle” will also now be able to tune into Sky Documentaries and Sky Nature.

The free channels are not the only change being rolled out to Virgin Media customers right now. Access to Hopster without paying extra is also being extended. This freebie was introduced during the previous lockdown. If you weren’t aware, Hopster has been created to provide a safe, ad-free environment for youngsters. It features a swathe of educational content along with entertainment such as ​Pingu and Sesame Street.

Virgin Media is also offering a number of Virgin Mobile customers a complimentary data boost to help them stay connected during the current lockdown. This is part of the Department for Education’s Get Help With Technology programme. Virgin Mobile has confirmed that it will now offer an additional 20GB of mobile data per month to ensure families who need connectivity so their children can take part in online lessons and remote learning will be able to stay connected at all times.

In addition, Virgin Mobile is offering vulnerable customers who are on Pay As You Go contracts 500 minutes, 500 text messages and 1GB of extra data at no extra cost every month, while vulnerable customers on Pay Monthly contracts can receive unlimited minutes and 10GB of additional data every month. Both offers are available until the end of March.

Finally, Virgin Media’s Essential broadband service continues to be available for those who receive Universal Credit. This plan costs £15 per month for 15Mbps speeds with no fixed-term contract length and no price changes while Universal Credit payments are being received.

We know how important it is for people to have the connectivity to get online, as well as to stay entertained while spending more time at home.

“From offering free mobile data to support remote learning to providing a great line-up of pay-TV channels at no extra cost, we’re pleased to be playing our part in helping our customers during this challenging time.”
