A 17-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and is having surgery after jumping off a cliff to evade police.

Another 17-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after plummeting from the rock face at the end of Toxteth Street in Sydney’s Glebe, but he only suffered minor injuries from landing on a ledge.

Officers attempted to stop the motorcycle duo about 1.40am on Thursday in the inner west suburb after confirming one of the bikes was reported stolen.

The two then allegedly ‘dropped the motorcycles’ and jumped a fence which was barricading the clifftop.

After Leichhardt Police captured the teens at the base of the cliff, they were both rushed to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

‘A critical incident team from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident,’ police said.

‘That investigation will be subject to independent review.’

The duo have not been charged.

Investigators urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information to contact police.
