A swimmer has drowned at a Gold Coast beach on Saturday morning, marking the third death at the popular spot in just two days.
Emergency services were called to Mermaid Beach around 7.40am on Saturday.
Paramedics desperately performed CPR on the sand but tragically the swimmer, believed to be an adult, was unable to be saved.
Beaches along the Gold Coast have been closed due to huge swells of up to two metres.

It comes after gym manager, Jake Jacobs, 32, and his female friend Julia Boika, 29, tragically drowned at Broadbeach while going for a late night swim on Thursday night.
Ms Boika’s body washed ashore at Kurrawa Beach an hour later but Mr Jacobs wasn’t found until late on Friday night floating at Main Beach.
TV weatherman, Luke Bradnam, stripped off and dove into the water to pull Mr Jacobs’ body from the surf with the help of a boogie boarder on Friday night.
The pair are believed to have gone swimming at around 9.20pm on Thursday.
Queensland Surf Lifesaving authorities have closed ten beaches along the coast and warned swimmers not to go into the water.
