  • More than a thousand user complaints were recorded before 11am
  • Service appeared to get back to normal around 11:30am GMT

Sky broadband appears to be fully back online after crashing across the UK for thousands of users.

The ill-timed outage came as millions of people, children and adults alike, are stuck at home under national lockdown.

Schools and workplaces have shut due to the soaring coronavirus infection rates across the UK, leaving millions reliant on home broadband for work and schooling.

The outage appeared to start around 10:50am and the vast majority of reported issues were to do with problems accessing the internet.

As of 10:59am GMT, outage tracker site downdetector recorded more than a thousand reports of connectivity issues from Sky customers.

Connectivity issues with the Sky-owned streaming platform NowTV were also detected across the country, but to a lesser degree than the broadband difficulties.

The cause of the issue remains unknown.

A Sky spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘There was a four minute outage to our broadband services this morning in the South Yorkshire area. We’re sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused.’

Hotspots of outages sprung up in Sheffield, Norfolk and London, but smatterings were seen at several major cities.
