Matteo Berrettini has said that he will be back in the final of the Wimbledon Championships and other Grand Slams after losing in the final against Novak Djokovic at the All England Club.
Djokovic raced into a 4-2 lead in the first set and Berrettini started nervously in his first Grand Slam showdown.
But the Italian stormed back to win the opening set following a thrilling tiebreak, in which he overcame Djokovic 7-4.
“It was an unbelievable feeling, maybe too many feelings to handle,” Berrettini said during his on-court interview after his defeat.
“He was better than me at that because he is a champion. Well done, Novak.
“He is rewriting the history of the sport. Hope it is not my last one here.
“It was a really great run during the two weeks and also at Queen’s.
Congrats to Novak’s team, they are doing something unbelievable. Every slam and every tournament [they do well].
“To all my family, my team and friends, thank you to everyone.
It has been a long, long journey and hopefully it is not the end – it is the beginning of a great career.
“Without them, all this wouldn’t have been possible. I’m saying grazie!”
