Covid deaths hit a six-week low as UK records 333 more victims and 14,104 infections – as case rates drop to pre-Christmas levels across all four nations
The daily count of Covid-19 deaths has dropped to the lowest level in six weeks to 333 and the number of infections is down to 14,014, official figures show.
Newly announced fatalities were lower than any time since December 27 today, dropping 18 per cent from 406 last Monday.
And daily positive tests fell by a quarter from 18,607 a week ago, with today’s number lower than at any time since December 8.
The devastating second wave of the virus is now slumping and per-person infection rates are lower than at any time since before Christmas in all four nations of the UK.
Hospital space is gradually freeing up, too, with 29,326 people in hospital with Covid-19 across the UK last Thursday, down from 39,220 at January’s peak.
